HANSA’S BACKGROUND

Photography has always been a passion of mine. I had my first point and shoot Pentax camera at the age of 14 when I joined the Kearsney College Photographic Society and ever since then, it’s been difficult to put a camera down.
I have completed two post graduate degrees at UNISA, in Communication & PR Management and Strategic Travel Management; majoring in photo-journalism. I also completed other courses in Business Management; Inter-Cultural Studies; a Diploma in Modelling; Language and Translation. In addition, I developed my photographic skills by attending various photographic workshops and exhibitions to learn the latest techniques; to name just two of which one being at the International Center of Photography in New York and the other at the College of Digital Photography.
Getting my private pilot’s license at 43 Air School in Port Alfred; in addition to satisfying my love of “flying & being in the air” has shown me a unique perspective of the world that I have to capture. This led me to take up aerial photography and the quick way out of the aircraft, sky-diving!
My most memorable photo-shoot moment was my helicopter trip over the New York skyline at sunset.
My keen sense of adventure has prompted me to travel and take on photo-shoot assignments on location which have led me up Kilimanjaro, snorkeling through the Great Barrier Reef, scuba diving with sharks at Seal Island in Cape Town; bungee jumping at Bloukrans Bridge; para-gliding through the Drakensberg Mountain Range; and hot air ballooning in Argentina. Cycling the Cape Argus, the 94.7 Challenge, and running the 2 Oceans Marathon has also helped fuel my competitive edge.
My official career in the modeling industry began at the age of 21; after being approached by the head of a modeling agency as I was walking to gym. I have since participated in many contests including Mr. South Africa; MNET Mr. Beach Boy & modeled with some of the Miss & Mr. South Africa's. Being photographed and appearing in magazines, newspapers and television was the norm for a while. This experience has given me vast insight into what it takes to be in front of the camera & work with various stakeholders in making a photo-shoot a success therefore giving me a greater understanding of a what a model or client is seeking to achieve for the photographic assignment. My experience as a model has proven invaluable to my view from behind the camera.
Photography assignments take me to some of the most exotic locations the world has to offer. Meeting people from different backgrounds gives me a unique opportunity and perspective on life which in turn enhances my photographic techniques & understanding.
My camera is always at hand, and I have been fortunate in capturing moments with global personalities on my travels - to name a few: Nelson Mandela, Jacob Zuma, The Queen Mother, George Bush; Richard Branson, Brigitte Neilsen, Quincy Jones, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, Naomi Campbell, Tamia, Peabo Bryson, Kingsley Holgate, Ms Chile 2009, Leanne Manas, Danny Glover, the King of Ghana and Bafana Bafana Coach, Alberto Pereira.
